Belgian Girl Geeks

Proximus Presents: Swipebox

Monday, August 10, 2015 0 , Permalink 1

I recently shared an invitation from Proximus for the event “Coming soon to your livingroom“. There were a few Girl Geeks present, but for those of you who couldn’t make it here’s a recap so you know what’s coming ;-)

The event was all about something to boost your television and it’s called the Swipebox. It’s a little box that you connect to your current Proximus hardware, and which will transform your TV into a Smart TV.

Proximus Swipebox

It will allow you to showcase photos and videos on your TV directly from your smartphone or tablet, while the TV-program that you were watching keeps playing in the background. Oh and it doesn’t matter from which brand your tablet or smartphone is, pretty important :-) Of course you can also watch TV on your mobile device. Compared to their competitor Telenet you will be able to play films and series you recorded on all your devices and wherever you want, while with Telenet this is currently only possible within their network.

What I really loved was the new look of their navigation. It seems to be extremely user-friendly, and I think a lot of people will throw away the remote and will control their TV from their smartphone. And let’s not forget that Proximus is the only TV supplier in Belgium with a Netflix partnership. So no need for a Chromecast or Wii for Proximus subscribers to become Netflix addicted ;-) They are also looking into expanding their packages with a focus on a stronger sports offer. Next to that it’s very likely that streaming services like Spotify will be added in the future.

These Proximus innovations are of course only a first step. I’m pretty sure that on the long term they will integrate the Swipebox in the decoder. In any case, only good news for Proximus clients!

#7BEGG @ Energy Lab – the recap

Wednesday, June 24, 2015 1 Permalink 0

Yesterday we had our very first ‘healthy’ Belgian Girl Geeks edition @ Energy Lab in Paal where we were very warm welcomed by Marijke, Ine & Wim from the Energy Lab team. The lucky early birds received a body scan which is an analysis of your body composition.

Before reveiling our ‘sporty’ activity we first had a healthy dinner: delicious salads sponsored by StarMeal and sportwater by AA Drink to be fully prepared for… a 5 km run around “Paalse Plas”!!!

During our run a few ladies tested the Plantronics BackBeat Fit and were coached by Evy Gruyaert via the Energy Lab Start2Run App. The others received ‘real life’ coaching by Wim from Energy Lab who made sure nobody was running too fast, though I must admit that wasn’t applicable for myself… I was rather too slow :-)

Afterwards we received very interesting presentations from Marijke & Ine  explaining the mission of Energy Lab to get everyone to sport responsibly so they can fully enjoy a healthy, fit and active lifestyle, and also how Energy Lab can help with this via their Labo, Apps & Tools and their Energy@Work program.

We also announced a contest to win Plantronics BackBeat Fits or a Body Scan @ Energy Lab. Only the ladies who attended #7BEGG yesterday can compete and as promised here are the ways to  make sure Energy Lab gets your message for the contest:

Last but not least we also received an energetic goodiebag:

  • an Energy Lab kitchen apron
  • a MyEnergyLab voucher to receive training schemes (with a value of € 24 if you select a training scheme of 24 weeks)
  • a Start2Run voucher for a free running scheme (value of € 3,99)
  • a flyer from Marmotta Alpin Hotel: in August they have a special deal for sporty people to train together with triathlete Tine Deckers for her preparation for the Iron Man 70.3 in Zell am See.
  • an AA Drink
  • a box of Vedett matches to burn our calories :-)
  • a flyer from StarMeal who sponsored our diner

And who knows we might organize an Energy Lab edition in Gent in the future, if we get enough requests for that ;-) In any case a big thank you to the Energy Lab team!!!

Your old phone charger became a hanging chair!

A while ago one of our Girl Geeks, Evy Puelinckx from Het Vindingrijk, was looking for old phone chargers for a secret upcycling project, and a lot of girl geeks donated their old chargers for which Evy would like to thank you!

She received a very cool assignment from Samsung: design a unique chair out of old phone charging cables to show that all those phone charging cables
won’t be necessary anymore in the future. How come? Well, the newest Samsung devices, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge can be charged wireless!

But the best is yet to come! This weekend you can win one of those unique hanging chairs. Good luck ;-)
